Using Drones

We use the latest technology to make our search more effective

Effective Search

A drone can provide the same search coverage, in some cases, as up to 22 search technicians on the ground over the same period of time.

Our organisation is equipped with three state-of-the-art drones featuring advanced video and thermal imaging technology, enabling us to conduct rapid and comprehensive searches and surveys over expansive areas.

The incorporation of thermal imaging cameras empowers us to locate missing persons during nighttime operations and in challenging, inaccessible terrain. Once a missing person is pinpointed, their precise coordinates can be transmitted to our foot search teams, expediting their rescue.

Team Skills

All air search operators are required to meet the Lowland Rescue national standard which includes relevant qualifications from both the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Search & Rescue specialities. Find out more about SAR people training.
